Any suggestions? 6 gallon with front mount exchanger. Doesn’t appear to be original.

Not planning to have the boat forever so price is a major factor.

Thanks!

Does it still heat water by running the engine? If the electrical heater is not working, is it worth replacing the heater element rather than the complete unit? I also believe someone posted on this site that they changed one. As I recall, they had to disassemble the old one to get it out, and then disassemble the new one and reassemble it in place to install it.

It still works perfectly fine, both engine and electric. Sadly, the rotten egg smell has taken over and I assume the coating on the tank is corroded away. As I understand it, there is no anode.

You need to do a water system cleaning.
1. Drain holding tank and hot water heater
2. Fill holding tank 1/2 full
3. Pour 1/4 cup bleach per 10 gallons of water into holding tank
4. Shake boat to mix bleach and water
5. Run hot water enough to reach faucet to get bleach mix into hot water heater
6. Let stand for 4 hours
7. Drain holding tank thru hot and cold water lines.
8. Fill holding tank completely full with water and 1 box of baking soda
9. Run hot water enough to reach faucet to get bleach mix into hot water heater
10. Let stand for 30 minutes
11. Drain holding tank thru hot and cold water lines.
12. Fill holding tank and drain again.
13. Fill holding tank
14. Your done.

Do a google search for RV and marine water system cleaning.
