Post subject:  VDO guage replacement with AA Marine cluster

I finally had my voice guage decide to flake out on me. After much reading on here, I opted to go with the pre-built cluster from Dave at AA Marine. It looks like a factory cluster which is what i wanted vs cobbling something together.. We chatted some via email to work out details such as color, etc. I went with the cherry color. I also went with a pitot speedometer since my paddlewheel has been broken off forever. I've never found a good source for the paddlewheel although I believe Dave can get them.

Once the minor details were ironed out, I placed an order. Much to my surprise, he had it ready within a week. Unfortunately, Dave happens to be only an hour from me, so we discussed me bringing my boat to him so he could take a look at the install. Unfortunately, I had some personal items keeping me from making the trip. I kept in contact with Dave and we were able to work out a time when he happened to be near me. So he came over to my house and we took put my vdo cluster and installed the new cluster from him. I think it took 15 or 20 minutes. It turned out great and I'm very pleased with it.

Pics to come soon.

The basic process is to remove 4 wing nuts on the back of the vdo cluster. Disconnect the wiring harness. Remove the cluster. Remove clips holding the surround/bezel. Mine had 7. Pull that out. Mine was stuck a little so it took some slight persuading. Predrilled the cluster from AA. Connect the wiring harness up set in place and screw it in. I opted to place to screws in the bottom even though there is a piece to glue in place that will hold it. Powered up and all works fine. I need to install the pitot tube and pickup still but if you're not doing that you'd be done.

The beauty of this is the factory look and plug n play install. When I priced out guages, this kit was just a bit more cost but no hassle. IMO, well worth it.
