I just made an order for 6 of the 9.5" LED strips from Oznium. I plan to put 1 in each of the cubbys on the sides, 1 under each helm station, and somehow (not sure yet just what I want to do) 1 on each side of the bow. If it turns out I want to add more, I am going to probably go for their rope lights and maybe a couple other strips for inside the engine compartment and some other places I have considered.

I will get some pics up whenever I get the project going...might be a few weeks since its a week for them to even get here. I am probably going to hook up with "impulse" because we have similar plans and might trade labor helping each other install them on our boats.

Well, with the help of Impulse, this project is done!

We installed 6 of the 9.5" Oznium flexible LED strips. Each strip has 24 LEDs in each one. Since these use SO little power, I opted to run one 16ga speaker wire around the boat to use as power and ground. Its good flexible wire and will carry more than enough power for these LED's. It also make it VERY easy to just tap in anywhere I want to add more in the future. Overall, it went pretty well, except for one snag. The connectors we were using were still too large to fit the 22ga wires that come out of the LED strips. So after we had it all wired up and went to test it...no dice. It took a call to Oznium to veryify wiring was correct since I ran it all in parallel and some deep thought. David (Impulse) had an idea that maybe these connectors we used to tap in might be too large and not making connection. Careful inspection says he was dead on the money. So after we repaired all 6 connections, we fired it up and voila!!!! After he left I did a little tiddying up of the wiring and its all complete.

So, we put 1 in each of the cubby compartments on each side just forward of the rear bench seat. We put under each the driver and passenger consoles and the last pair we put in the bow area. They are in between the side cushions and the seat cushions. Well hidden so that when they are on, all you see is a glow...not the LED's themselves. I bought a simple round lighted switch like what Oznium sells and mounted inside the little cubby that houses the 12V outlet and audio aux input. Just drilled a hole and used the dremel to fine to it...works great and out of sight.

Definately special thanks to Impulse (David) for his help and some tools. Its not a hard job, but when you are "fishing" wire all through the side of the boat, extra hands sure do help a LOT.

This "glow" theme worked out well all around the boat and it looks great. I will shut the garage and take some pics to post shortly.

Ok, here are some pics. As you can imagine, these types of pics are fairly hard for a novice to take and be halfway decent...you will get the idea. Some were taken with my iphone and some with my regular camera. The pics of the bow make the light almost look like you are directly looking at it. I assure you, sit anywhere in the boat and you cannot see the actual LED strips.

It was a pleasure meeting you Steve and helping you with your project. I think it turned out great and the first night you get to experience them on the water will be cool indeed. Helping you with this project definetly helped me decide what direction to go, as I have been so undecided until now. I've ordered 8 of the 9.5 blue flexible led strips from oznium.com with priority shipping so they'll be here next week.
