Anyone have some recommendations on a onboard battery charger for my 260 with the dual battery set up. I'm not planning any other projects this year except adding a charger so I can easily top my batteries off. (my stereo tends to use a lot of juice  )

I was thinking about the pro sport 8.

But am wondering how much "better" the pro sport 12 is? I am assuming those increased amps just mean faster charger time? How much faster?

Any thoughts on mounting location?

I put mine on the starboard side of the engine bay.

I love the convience of it. The one you posted has a nicer profile and the heat fins, which are probably a real good thing. I know mine gets quite hot during charging. I don't know if they make any with a built in level indicator, meaning you can check the level when not plugged in, but I wish mine had something like that. I know there are seperate systems that can do this, but it would be nice to have it all in one package.

I am thinking of getting the same one. Looks like a nice unit and I can pick them up locally for around $90-100.00. Saves on the shipping anyway.

Cincy the pro sport 12 can be had at Bass Pro Shops right now for $99. I am probably going to get one tomorrow.

I have a Pro Mariner 5-5-3 w/remote charge indicator from Bass Pro. I have used it just this winter and it seams to work well. the remote indicator doesn't work well with the charger hooked up to the batteries though. The price was also $99 and has three banks.

Tennja- let me know if they have more when you go. I may stop up there after work.

Mike, do you use the 3rd bank for anything? I've considered adding one of the 2-bank versions of that same unit.

Here's a link to the dual bank smart charger I'm using, it's 10 amps per side, handles GEL, sealed and regular acid batteries, is ignition protected and carries water resistant ratings:

I picked up my ProMariner Prosport 12 charger today from Bass Pro Shop on sale for only $99. It was normally $139 I think. This is the 12 amp dual bank charger. As soon as the boat comes out its going in. Should be my only upgrade project this spring. The rest will just be maintenance related.
