I need to replace the bow light on the boat. Can I go to a led light without any extra parts or anything? There are no other led's on the boat, but as I replace what's there I'd like to go with the led's for the improved visibility. Is it just a simple swap or do I need some kind of transformer or balast or anything?

Jon

The swap is very simple. You have two options

1- replace the bulb with an LED bulb

Check out this link

http://ca.binnacle.com/information.php?info_id=8

2- Replace with a unit like this

The above particular unit is from Atwood but i'm sure if you google "LED navigation lights" you will get all kinds of options.

Here's another high tech looking unit

Available at http://www.lopolight.com/

Don't worry about ballasts, or resistors just make sure the unit you buy is rated for 12V operation.
