Thanks for the pics. How hard was it to install the extra batt and rewire everything? If I did this route, I figure I could get one group 29 for now, and leave the 2 24's to be house batts until I need to replace them, then go 29s. I do have a built in gen on this boat though...

If I didn't say so above .... that would be fine.

However (there's always that "but" ......)

The two batteries that you use in parallel (for your house, for example) should be of similar capacity and age. We know that all 29s are not the same capacity, but close is fine. And, if you have one 2-year old 29 and a new 29 (in the future, as you suggested), you will be hampering the new one ..... similar to the issues noted above, like with two different capacity batteries.

Just keep this in mind.

My boat had an older 29 and a new 29 (both interstate). So .... I purchased a new MAXX-29 (WalMart) which had a similar capacity and I have the old 29 as the engine and the two new ones as house.

Just got back from a great dinner at Olive Garden, and wrapped up the evening by looking at batteries at Walmart. Can anyone confirm what a '04 268 should have in it? I'm betting 29s, I'm probably thinking 27s because that is what my 225 had.

The 268 has a built in genset, and I'm betting we will run it some time each night on the hook, for the a/c. Do I really need to put a second house battery in, or is one enough? The admiral said if FW thought it needed two, they would have given it two... but she's trying to save money.

Forgot to put.... 27's were $70, and the 29's were $85. Not bad.

One group 27 will MAYBE run a vaccuflush, water for brushing your teeth, fridge, tv/radio for sometime, and lights off and on all night long. I know it doesn't run the 318 and my boat is 'all night long'. I have group 27's. I only have 1 house battery.

Run the generator before bed to cool things down, and again in the morning to charge things up. The challenge is getting from when you shut down the genny to when it's time to fire up.

FW reasoning is 'run the generator'. Their reasoning should have been to pony up the extra $150 for a battery, cables, and install.

Again - depends on how your boat is wired as well...

Remember, our '03 had/has 29s.

You know, there's nothing wrong with just using what you have .... and see how it works out. You canalways make the change.
