Has anyone changed out their original bow navigation light to an LED unit? Like most, the outer housing on my incandescent one gets to about 4,000,000 degrees after it's been on for awhile - hot enough to burn an arm or the bottom of a foot.

I'd like to go LED. The original uses a festoon type bulb. There are festoon LED replacements, but directionality is important in these lights and I haven't found a festoon LED module that I think would throw enough light to both sides, or rotate out of the right position from vibration.

That brings me to whole-unit replacements. I'd like to find something that has the same hole pattern as the original and close to the same footprint. I know Attwood has a couple and I'm sure there are others, but thought I'd start by seeing if anyone has already invented this wheel.

Interesting post....I wanna follow this. LED's are good on power, are very bright and of course, they are cool to the touch.

Hey Mike they are available, I have seen them here in South Oz ( the bulb replacement ) So one can assume that they are available on your side of the planet
Hope this helps

Check http://www.perko.com It has been a little since I looked at their page but they had a few options that looked pretty good if you are going to do a full replacement.

I am going to follow this as well. Chapparral has the flip Nav lights if those come in an LED type that is probably the way I will go in the future.

Hopefully this is not too much of a hijack 8) but I would like to replace my anchor light with LED first. It gets more abuse than the navlights. So I was looking to do this first. Has any one done this? I would have thought I could buy one from Perko but I haven't found one yet. Attwood makes a LED all around anchor light but then I would have to change the base. I am looking for a simple plug and play so to speak.

A friend of mine does have an LED anchor light. Its good and bad.

Good - Its bright, and can be seen from a good distance. It is also pretty cool to the touch.

Bad - Its bright! If you are hanging out on the swim platforms, especially with multiple people/boats tied together at night...it is BRIGHT!
