I bought the stuff to do the bow rail last year and didnt do it yet... somebody at the marina mentioned the light will attract bugs. For whatever reason, I hadnt thought about that aspect. You guys that have them... is it an issue? I would love to do it but I dont want to have flying pest all over.

For me, the cupholders don't attract bugs. I know the anchor light, docking lights, and stereo remote light do. This spring I am switching the stereo remote light to the ctsy light ckt instead of being on the nav's. The floorboard rope lights aren't on that often (ctsy), so I couldn't tell you. I hope the under-swim platform/underwater lighting will not be intense enough to be an attractant, but will be on the ctsy lights as well. If it does become a problem, but otherwise works as I intend, I will switch over to blue LED for the under-swim platform lights. That shouldn't be as intense, but still provide a decent lighting effect.

Thats the way I was headin is the blue lights, just curious what the othere with blue lights have experienced.

fire...those lights you are showing are in very clear water. Yours are going to have a nice sludge effect to them due to the muddy water your boat is in most of the time. Good luck with it though...curious to see how they turn out.

yeah, me too... that's why I didn't want to mount them below water. But, for only $25, It'll pay for itself with the first "... hey, cool lights".

Thats why I'm thinking above the water. On Cincy's 290 they are white and at or below the water line. They light up a decent amount of the murky water.

They'll be nice to have also when we go to other lakes aside from our home lakes.

Great thanks. In the picture there, are the lights on under the water as well as under the swim platform, or both?

If you're referring to my swim platform lights, they are strip lights located around the underside of the platform. I don't have any lights below the waterline.

How many of those strips did it take?

I used three strips. If I recall, one was 90 cm long and the other two were 45 cm each. This was just enough to go all around the inner edge of the platform.

Ok- I just placed an order for the Oznium LED lights firecadet613 mentioned, and also an order with PlasmaLED for some modules similar to Ozniums, but 3w instead of 1watt with a magnifying lense at 25deg angle. My plan is test these lights in various water conditions:
Clear and turbulent=whirlpool tub w/jets on?
Semi-muddy water=small lake down the street
Lake Michigan
I'll take pictures of my results and report back!
Here's my order: Oznium 2 Blue hight intensity floods, 1 white hight intensity flood
PlasmaLed:2 High power LED white 008 3w, 3w High power LED blue 008 3w
This has got to be cheaper than the OceanLed's I was looking at, plus cheaper to replace if damaged....we will see!

Looks easy, economical and simple enough to install strips. Hmmmmm.

Thanks Cap'n! That is a nice setup not to mention economical, but unfortunatly it will only achieve half of what I'm looking to accomplish. I want the cool looking glow of the blue LED's, but I also need something thats REALLY going to light up the water. During the summer we back up to the beach, unload tons of gear(bbq, chairs, towels, ect) and hang out all day, but the problem is getting all that stuff back on the boat once it turns dark! It would be nice to flip on some serious light so we aren't wading in waist deep pitch black water to get back to the boat! I'm starting to back away from the idea of thru hull lights because the idea of putting holes in a perfectly good hull just insn't sitting right with me. Instead I'm looking at mounting 2- 55w led floods under the swim platform by mounting a bracket that stretches between the platform/hull thru bolts, mounting the floods, and putting the blue ozniums I already purchased on a seperate switch when I just want the cool blue glow effect!

I hate to ask for a favor being the new guy here, but I'm about 1 1/2 hrs away from my 268 so if someone reading this has easy access to their 248/268 could I ask for a HUGE favor...could you please measure the approx distance between the two center platform mounting bolts? Thank you!! :D

I think I figured out what I am going to do. Mount the Oznium lights under my platform, in a bed of 4200, no screws necessary. Drill a small hole above the waterline, through the transom, seal it up with epoxy, then redrill and run the wiring again using 4200 to seal it up.

I figure 3 or 4 light should give me a pretty good glow, there are 5 on this 380DA to give it this look....

And here are how they are mounted.

Two switches cost me $12 shipped, figure $80 or so for the lights, and I have LED swim platform lights installed for just about $100.

Looks great, and nice, reasonable price! Have you seen that 380 running? I am wondering if it looks as cool as underwater lights when cruising.

I came across these underwater LED's when I was at the marina Friday looking at a new boat.
These lights were on a 32 foot Cruisers. It's something new to me that I had not seen before, so I thought some of you that are considering lights may be interested. It seems "what color?" often comes up, no worries here, you pick the color you want , when you want, and control it remotely from the helm. This is a stock photot with the lights installed on a Mastercraft Ski boat.
Image

The lights are made by Lumishore The ones I saw were
the Drivelite x90 plus Color Change. I particularly liked how these attach to the trim tabs or outdrive, and there are no holes to be drilled below the waterline. Totally adjustable flash fequencies and colors of light, ideal for fishing and differnt water conditions. Glass lenses and Stainless housings as well, so they should last a very long time. At nearly $3K  they should be........
