Mount it under the HU. On our 268 Vista there was alot of space under and behind that area to mount
an inverter. Plus it's a straight run down the port side back to the batteries and switches. If you want an inverter, that seems like the best location to me. Heck, Vista Al put in an A/C vent in that area of his 268, and there was plenty of room for that and the connection.

Well I finally made up my mind and pulled the trigger on the Xantrex hf1800 inverter/charger. I decided to go with the inverter in part due to the lack of storage for the Honda Genset. I would of had to mount it to the swim platform, but since we spend alot of time there the inverter seems like a better choice for us. We carry so much stuff to the beach with us that making room for one more thing to take seemed like it might be to much hassle. Also I got a great deal on the Xantrex.

Last weekend I scoped out a good location to mount it...on the starboard side in the cavity directly below the arch. My house batteries are on the starboard side so it's a very short run for the DC cables. Now I just need to locate a good deal on some 6 volt golf cart batteries!

I'll take some pics of the install in case anyone's interested in watching me install this while attempting to not turn my 268 into a raging inferno of misguided electrical wiring.
