The gauges on my 2000 FW H180 look so outdated. It's one of the main features you see when you enter the boat. They are the individual VDO's. The hull, interior, and graphics look as new as a 2011 boat but when you check out the wheel/gauges it looks 90s. Here's my idea:

Cover the original gray plastic gauge surround with 3M Di-Noc carbon fiber material. If you've never seen it in person it's amazing stuff.

Then, install new set of gauges. I've seen the kit that included everything needed (mph, tach, temp, pressure, volts, motor height) for good prices

Looking at your other thread, I would suggest substituting a mech speedo for a GPS based one (IMO).

BTW.. I like the "Carbon-fiber" look. You may be able to get some gages to show it off a little better.

my PS skills are not what they used to be hahahahaha. The lighter background looks better then the darker. I'm thinking the graphite di-noc might be the winner.

I really like this idea! Couple of questions for you.

How good is the carbon fiber material against the elements?
Have you thought about how you would label the switches, etc?

3-5 year outdoor rated. I have no plans to label anything. If I REALLLLLLLLLLLLY wanted some on there, I'd find a local laser engraver to make me some tiny plaques to epoxy on. Probably something any trophy maker could do.

Di-Noc carbon fiber weave is very popular in the automotive industry. Most of the applications are outdoor on hoods, spoilers, trim of sports cars. It hasn't been out but a few years, and so far there's no one bitching about it falling off or discoloring.

Sounds really cool. Keep us updated on your progress as it is something I am considering doing on my 248.

No idea for a steering wheel yet. They sell the adapters to install any aftermarket automotive wheel. There's some really nice inexpensive wood/aluminum wheels out there that might just add a touch of class.
