I have a 2008 H180 I recently purchased. I want to add an hourmeter close to the other gauges since there is a perfect spot to install there. I tested the fuse block under the dash and every fuse position has power all the time (after adding a fuse) even with the key off. Where should I wire to? Also, is it possible to use a scan tool to read the current hours on the engine? (2008 VP 3.0 GLP-J) |

There should be an output wire on your ignition switch that ONLY has power when the key is on. |

Bobaloo My hour meter is in the engine compartment. I just lift the engine cover to see it. I am not sure you need to see it tick off the time while driving, but you could if you wanted to. Lay on your back on the floor and you can easily see all the wiring under the helm. The ignition area is one of the easier to locate as it is on the bottom left. See the picture and the green arrow pointing to my hour meter. Two wires and a basic install.

They may seem a little pricey, but the combined tach/hour meter gage that was standard on my FW is about $120 through west marine. I'm sure you can shop around and find cheaper. My PP GPS-speedo also has a hour meter. Maybe others do to? |

Just an update... I installed a Faria hour meter (matches the OEM gauges) at the helm.

There is no way to read hours on a VP 3.0L, they are not computerized. |

Mercruiser now sells a fully computerized fuel injected 3.0. http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines/me ... 0/?model=1 You can hour meter anything that has a power source, but until that gauge is installed... what it previously had is unknown. |

Bobaloo....nice clean install - looks good. Ric - he was checking into getting a read on existing hours on the boat via computer read. |
