Post subject: | Replacing Group 27 Batteries with Group 34 AGM Batteries??? |
I currently have 2 batteries in my boat (Horizon 210 bowrider w/5.0L Mercury). Both batteries are Interstate batteries (size 27M-XHD) with the specs listed below. Is there any reason I can't replace my existing batteries with Group 34 AGM batteries? I came across some Duracell AGM batteries (made be Deka/East Penn) at Sam's Club that seemed to be priced pretty well ($90 after core charge). Sam's also carries Optima marine batteries but they are about 60% more than the Duracells. The only thing that I might operate on my boat while the motor isn't running is the radio (no amp) and I can't see me running that for more than an hour at a time. Isn't an AGM battery preferable over a "regular" battery? Is there anything I should consider before doing so? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Two of those Duracell's doesn't even equal one of your interstates. You can, just don't blast the radio for 6 hours on your starting battery. |

The CCAs seem relatively close (Interstate-800, Duracells-775) and the CAs are also relatively close (Interstate-1000, Duracells-955). Is there something else I'm missing? |

Amp hour rating is the only one to look at. That's the battery's capacity or 'size of its gas tank' |
