So I switched on the coffee maker this morning and ... nothing. Still half asleep and wondering what the hell the problem was, I looked at the panel and the indicator for system 1 was at 0. So I checked the cable - it was plugged in and the red light was on. Tried a different shore power outlet - same result. I couldn't understand how the power could be at the boat but not "in the system." Incidentally, system 2 was operating fine. Then I shut off the breakers at the shore power receptacle and the panel, plugged the cable back in its regular outlet, flipped the breakers and voila! We had power again. I have no idea how long the power was off or why it was off. Has this happened to any body else? |

The cable's red light only tell you there's power in that side of the connector. Not whether it's actually getting delivered into the boat. My guess would be your connection was loose enough that jostling around in there for the breaker and the plug swap fixed it. Me, I've got a Y-splitter in there. I just feed both sides from a single 30A shore outlet. I never run enough at the same time for it to be an issue. No hair dryer on board. And only rarely do we run the microwave while the AC is running. We never use the electric range. If we needed the range then, yes, I'd connect a second cable. |

I've wanted to get a Y cable for some time but I'm too cheap. Maybe next year. |

rjrose wrote: I've wanted to get a Y cable for some time but I'm too cheap. Maybe next year. Scoured ebay for mine. Yes, it's very handy. Found a 50a to 30a adapter that way too. Which lets me use my 30a cables with a 50a socket, should I get stuck with a slip that only has a 50a source plug. |
