question about interior cabin cushions

I was taking a closer look at my v-berth cushions and the mid cabin cushion/mattress and they seem to be fairly heavily stained with mildew. I don't really spend a lot of time in the cabin and probably won't sleep on the boat so I'm not sure if I'd want to spend a ton of money for all new cushions, but if I came upon a used set of cushions that were in decent shape I wouldn't mind spending a bit of money to replace them. So I guess my question would be do I need to replace the cushions from the exact model boat (99 258 Vista), or would cushions from a similar size boat (260 Sundancer, etc) work if I happen to come upon a set? I recently purchased one of those dryer/dehumidifier units for the cabin so hopefully that will prevent any further mildew growth.

Also just out of curiosity, does anyone have a rough idea of what it would cost to replace all the interior cushions new?

I would take them along to a marine canvas worker, auto upholsterer or general upholsterer and ask for a quote to recover the foam using the old cushion as a pattern.

Was that 350 for all brand new cushions, or did you have existing cushions reupholstered?

I saved the foam. I also purchased my own fabric (microfiber). I'm sure you could find cheaper but I went to my normal vinyl guy for the sewing and he's given me great deals in the past.

Yeah I guess I need to see what condition the foam is in. If it doesn't look bad, then I'll just take it and get new fabric sewn on by an upholsterer.

Pick out some nice material, don't go with some dated looking stuff.

Nice choice, I was thinking I'd like a nice navy or royal blue as well. Was also considering a green to match the canvases but I think that blue would look better.

Well just an update for anyone who has a 258 or similar sized boat and looking to get their cushions redone. I received an estimate of 1000 in labor and 250 in materials to have all the cushions in the interior reupholstered (using existing foam). This is a guy my brother's body shop uses all the time, so I'm fairly certain that I wouldn't get a much better estimate elsewhere, but think I'm gonna just give all the covers a good washing for now considering I really don't spend much time in the cabin.

Sounds about right labor wise. That material sounds cheap. What is it? Burlap?

My boat used 7 yards at $10yd using thin microfiber (about the weight of a quality tshirt). I had very tight budget constraints due to overspending else where. The material is fine and will last a decade but the correct material like used in couches runs on the order of $50/yd. The difference? It's not as soft.

Do NOT use an outdoor fabric, that is the incorrect material to use and will feel very rough. You want a high quality polyester couch material.

He actually said probably 250 depending on what materials I used. I didn't get into picking anything out though because even though probably a very fair price for labor, it is really more than I want to spend at this point. I had been researching online and the sunbrella interior fabrics for cushions seemed to go in the vicinity of 20-25/yard.

That will feel horrible. If you're going to spend the money get something that feels good like you're at home watching TV.

When choosing a fabric be sure it fits how you expect to use it. If you're going to have guests with wet bathing suits down below then you'd want to take that into account when selecting the material. But if not then you can go with pretty much anything you like. That and it doesn't have to be done by a boat-oriented company. If you've still got existing cushions then it might be worth shopping around away from the water for someone to make new covers.
