Post subject:  extended swim platform
Has anyone had any experience with the extended swim platform that can be added from four winns, and how much did you pay? My local dealer quoted me $1700.00 , is it worth it. I get nervous with my kids on what little platform there is, and I don't want to see them or anyone else take a fall onto the outdrive unit. Thanks in advance.

If you go to the photos section, my boat is the one with the wakeboard tower, yellow band across tthe top of photo, as you can see there is very little platform integral to the hull.

I added the factory ESP last summer and while it is a pretty expensive addition I feel it was the best modification I had made to my boat. Sorry I did'nt do it sooner. I have pictures of the process and I can give you a lot of good tips if you do the installition yourself.

I added one this spring with the hlep of some very good tips and pictures from teker. This is the best addition you can make to any boat. $1700 installed is pretty good, a little high though if is just the parts.

Supra Sam, that is a damn good looking platform, Is there a special drill bit for the fiberglass gel coat that you are suppose to use?

No special fiberglass drill bit. What you need to do is:

Put tape where you are going to drill so the gelcoat doesn't chip around the edges of the hole. Also, after you drill the hole you want to use a bit larger drill bit to make the hole "countersunk. This will prevent the gelcoat edge at the hol,e from chipping when you tightwen down a screw.

Now, if you are drilling through an area that is cored you actually want to drill a larger hole, fill it with epoxy and then drill your real hole thru the epoxy. This prevents any water from entering the coring. Water entering the coring will cause you great headache and big $ down the road.

For the swim platform install, you will also want to use a sealant/adhesive like 3M 5200 in the screw holes and stansions to keep water from wicking into the screw holes.

Do the two braces that go down to the bottom of the hull, the pole supports, are they drilled into a solid piece of hull or does it go thru where you have to put nuts and plates in the engine compartment?

I have the same question. Looks like a manageable installation for my Horizon 200, but in this photo that Four Winns sent me I'm not sure how I'd attach those two bottom supports. It does look like some kind of landing pad is used for the mount connection, but without more info, its hard to tell.

BTW, this one is $1370 +/- for parts only based on the Four Winns list pricing.

The supports have the round flange welded on the top and bottom. That is where the 3 screws go that hold it in place. Its really very easy, attach the top to the platform locate the bottom of the brace and mount it with screws using caulking in the holes.

That makes sense. It sure didn't look like there was any way to access the backside of the extended transom to tie in connectors. Installation should be a piece of cake with that setup

I also got the spreadsheet that's in the previous post - which included a horrible picture. At least it had measurements. The pic I posted was from a cs rep at FW who dug it up after we were discussing how the esp looked on the boat. Much better idea with that photo combined with the dimensions. I think I would gain 20" or additional space with the factory ESP.
