Agreed, buy the Magma! I have had three because I keep stepping up to new ones when I find a great deal. The Newport I picked up used WITH the mount for $25. It needed a good cleaning, but Magma's clean up very nice. looked like new when I was done.

The way they are assembled with the double wall stainless makes them easy to clean. When I find another great deal I'll step up to a larger one with infared.

Anyone ever try Kuuma grills? I understand they may not be ideal for a salt environment, but wondering about fresh water climates. They seem to run quite a bit cheaper than Magma.

Yes, and i have extensively looked into them.. FOR starters they are made in CHINA and not AMREICA! so that is all you need to know. yes cheaper but you get thinner gauge lower quality stainless and a grill with less readily available mounting solutions. MAGMA has something like 40 mounting solutions. where as Kuuma has like 3.

moral of the story is to buy AMERICAN buy MAGMA

I think they are actually made in Thailand. :)

Picked up a Newport 1 at the boat show yesterday for a killer price.

If you are going to pick up a Newport 1, I suggest you do it sooner than later as it seems they are limited in numbers. There were not any deals to be had on the Newport 2 that I saw.

On this subject, what are the magma grill holders like that attach to the side poles when you are at SEA rather than at a lake ... does any swell make these a nightmare to use, and would the swim platform mount with the pole be better?

thanks !

I have a pole mount on my swim platform for the old Kuuma grill. I plan to modify that mount to work with my new Magma.

I like the idea of having the grill away from the kid traffic. Also, there is no messing with the camper tops when it's time to fire it up.

I agree ^^^ away from the kids and guest traffic. also contain any spills to the swim platform that is easily cleaned or contained until home for deep clean.

A friend uses 2 layers of aluminum foil with paper towel cut to size to line the grease trap. you mold the aluminum foil perfect to the tray then cut a few sheets of paper towel to fit int he tray. this catches all of the drippings and is easily popped out of the tray when all done and into a trash bag. Your grill is clean and ready for storing. Simple way to contain the mess.

I use one of these. I like it for the fact that it doesn't take up room on the swim platform and I didn't have to drill any holes. We only use it at anchor and the swim platform is usually in constant use at this time. It also hangs out over the water so any drips or spillage goes overboard. It is also very ease to release and let drop if the fire ever got out of hand.
The only thing I don't like is that the mount does not easily come off the grill for storage.

my main issue with eh bimini mounts are that you cannot use the front tray and it seems that the V arms of the bimini would get in the way.

Thanks guys, I'm keen to know what they are like when used at sea where a swell is likely..would that make the swim platform a better option or is it just personal preference....?

Thanks!
