Post subject:  Electric Toilet Questions

Upgrading the factory Jabsco "hand pump" toilet in the head of my 1997 Vista 278 to a Jabsco electric marine toilet.

They offer it in a few different set ups, such as - you can draw from lake water, or from your pressurized water system. BUT the one I cant find ANY literature on is the two variations in size of the actual porcelan bowl part. There is a "compact" size, and apparently a regular size. I cant seem to find measurements, and a phone number for tech support is lost on me. Anybody do this upgrade and can tell me what the size difference between the two bowls is? TIA!

Sorry can't tell you sizing but using holding tank water is the way to go if it fits. Lake/sea water gets really smelly real fast.

Did you check into vacuflush? Seem to be good systems for the most part from my experience(obviously anecdotal). We have one on the current boat and on the 258 so I assume it will fit a 278. They seem to be more common so may be better pricing. Not to say Jabsco doesn't make a good product, I just haven't seen one even on friends boats.
As for using holding tank water the vacuflush uses such a small amount of water you don't really notice consumption. The manual says roughly a pint of water per flush. Also less waste in the holding tank.
