I finally got my flag pole up and mounted, just in time for the long weekend. I purchased the 30" Taylor Made Stainless Steel Flag Pole Kit. It's a bit pricey at $76, but worth it in my mind. I had to shop around quite a bit to find that low of a price, and I found it at Boatersland.com Since I didn't want to permanently install it on my boat, I also purchased the Taylor Made Stainless Steel Rail Mount Boat Flag Pole Socket for a 1" rail. Thats a $35 part, so its not a cheap flag set up. I used a 16x24" flag, as I felt the 12x18 was a bit small for my size boat. I originally tried the 24" pole, which is the recommended size for the 16x24 flag, but at rest the flag was touching the boat. I put it on my stern rail and it went on real easy. It includes a neoprene spacer pad and has a set screw at the bottom to hold it in place on the rail. I put the spacer in place, and installed it. It comes as two pieces, and they are held together with allen screws. The set screw goes in firmly, and puts a small dent in underside of the rail, so it is secure in place. Very nicely done & patriotic You see so many people that have the ones that clip onto the mooring light & you have to know that it isn't a great plan. |

I tried the cheap pole that goes in your stern navigation light base, and didn't like that. West Marine sells there brand one for about $45 or so, and I didn't care for that to much. This setup at West Marine is well over $100, and they don't carry the rail mount. Its a very "hefty" pole, and should last for a long time to come. I'm very pleased! |
