Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a security cover for the inside of my lewmar hatch? When I use the ventilation position yes it is secure, but rain gets blown in, so I have to have it in a more closed position to allow ventilation without rain getting in but its not secure and any scroat could nick all my stuff.

I am pretty sure there is no such cover available. When not on the boat, use the port lites for your ventilation and the hatch closed and secure. That always seems sufficient on our 268, and no "scroat" can get through those.

Not 100% sure but I am wondering if there is a safety code to prevent a lock like that being installed on the hatch. In reality it is a second means of egress in the event of fire.

No can do on a 238 Cap'n, the surrounds on the port lites were badly designed and angle inward and rain really pours in through them. I keep the little hatch over the bunk wide open all the time, and keeping the main hatch slightly open causes a through draught that keeps the boat bone dry. I will have a go at designing something that will fit over it when we leave the boat.

Good point! But I would only use it when not on the boat.

I see what you mean, now that I can see your boat picture. Your's are above the rub rail, and I guess rain would come in there. Our's are below on the 268, I even leave them open underway, always dry as a bone.
I really can't think of anything that might work. Keep working on it, and let us know how you solve the problem.
