Hi

I was just wondering what essentials you guys keep on your boats, apart from the legal lifejackets and flares etc. A first aid kit was one I thought of - can anyone suggest anything else they don't go out without?

Thanks

JB

Tool box and spare fuel filters. That saved me yesterday.

Impeller, fuel filter, jumper cables, spare prop.

Tool box has multimeter, length of fuel line, length of different sized vinyl tubing, marine tex, along with almost any tool to fix anything but motor removal. Beach stakes and 2nd anchor, many 25' and 50' lines to tie up to beach, or tree, or another boat. I am sure I have forgotten a few items that are packed in boat.

This list all depends on were you boat, how you boat and it you only go out for the day vs. weekend or longer.

Credit card + Sea Tow membership!
VHF radio if in costal regions
full tool kit...set of sparkplugs...distributor cap n rotor...points n condenser
spare drive belts
spare impellers already installed in the housing (Cobra is easy to replace...can be done by trimming drive up even in the water if you are careful)
quart of motor oil and funnel
cleaning stuff and rags

if you have only a single battery system, carry a battery jump pack just in case....one of the best modifications I made to the boat was the dual battery system (2 group 27 dual purpose batteries) and replacing all the battery cables (boat is over 20 years old)...with that I have never had a starting failure in 7 seasons and even if I had a leak in the cover there is enough batter power to run the bilge pump if needed....

Hmmm, let me see my first boat, so I may be doing this wrong:

First Aid Kit
Leatherman (for multi-purpose tools)
Extra Fuel Line
4 or so cans/bottles of sunblock
cell phone
CPR waterproof sheet (Just because I know it doesn't mean everyone does)
Bug spray/repellent, snake bite kit

Really all I can think of outside the legal requirements.

I trailer my boat and never on the water for more than 3-5 hours at a time, so my list is small....First Aid kit, extra fuses, basic tools, binoculars, handheld spotlight.

One I don't think many people think about is a boat hook. We don't use it often, but when we do it's a wonderful thing. Of course, it's under 3 tubes and an anchor.

I also carry a well equipped tool bag and a jumper pack.

Electrical tape, duct tape, minimal tools (pliers, two screwdrivers and crescent), qt engine oil, drive oil, funnel.....other than that my tools are in the truck. No room for a lot of stuff .....

Some of us with smaller boats just don't have the space........we stay on the water all day swimming and boarding so by the time you pack towels, tow ropes, fenders, pfds, knee boards x2/wakeboards x2/skis/tube/water trampoline/ice chest and snacks there just taint a whole lot of space left.......sometimes i think i need to floating trailer i can anchor off somewhere with all the extra stuff so you aren't tripping over things.
