Hi,

I got a quote on repairing our eu2000 generator. I thought it just would need some good cleaning so we brought it to the dealer. It wasnt starting at that time.

Now the dealer is claiming that the carburetor is bad and it will be about $200. He says the ethanol in the gas eats up the aluminum.

200 seems a bit much. Does anybodt has any experience with it?

Thanks,

Richard

I'm assuming the 200 is parts and labor. The carb itself is just a bit over 100 bucks so 200 is not too far off.

Thank captain Walt. I googled around a bit and saw that the carb is indeed around 100$ so I guess it is fine... Next time I'll put stablizer in it.

I recently joined the eu2000 yahoo group, since I've been contemplating buying one for a year now. One thing I've learned there is that the carbs are very precision parts with tiny passages and so it's important to pay attention to maintenance and fuel care.

Had to have fuel shut off valve replaced this year, gen set is approx 7 years old. No carb issues.

But $200 for quality Honda...... not too bad.

It is purring nicely now. The tech told me to maybe use stabilzer but certainly to run the engine dry each time.

Part of the storage preparation is to open the drain screw at the base carburetor. This drains the gas in the float bowl via a clear plastic tube through the base of the generator. One this is done, give an extra pull or two on the starter cord with the switch set to off to get the remaining gas out of the fuel lines. I also run Sea Foam in the gas to keep the carburetor passages clean.
