Swim Platform Carpet

I'd like to get other opinions regarding putting carpet on the swim platform. I like the idea because I seem to have trouble keeping the platform nice and white, no shoes on the boat, but even pushing off in bare feet and stepping from the dock to boat makes it dirty.
That said, I have no interest if it's something I need to remove when I leave the dock, or to have it dry.

Opinions?

BTW, I tried searching and came up empty.

I would recommend SeaDek instead of carpeting for the swim platform. Price should be close to carpet and will wear much better.

I wonder if I could put that SeaDek stuff where the carpet would go on my boat? The white floor just will not come back to that almost new look and using the carpet is not an option as it gets too wet and would get moldy and in FL its hot and no need to keep our toes comfy

YES, you could. I have used Seadek, good suff. I would just go with lighter colors, the darker one get too hot! Go to their web site, it will give you some ideas of what you can do with it.

How does it apply? Glue down?

It appears that they custom cut them for the swim platform, I wonder if they can for the deck? Have to give them a call.

I have the same problem, but I want to go with http://www.plasteak.com/marine-teak-decking over any other material I've seen.

Plasteak is EXTREMLY hot in the summer. It would be unbearable in the Florida sun. Looks nice, but not a good choice for southern climates.
The SeaDek does not get anywhere near as hot, and is very durable in all conditions and climates. plus much cheaper than any synthetic teak.

I had carpet on the swim platform of my Carver MY and it does look nicer than the non-skid. However, if you like to sit on the platform and hang your feet in the water and you are not wearing your swimsuit, you can't because it is like sitting on a sponge.

Oh really? Crap. I don't like that sponge look/feel of seadeck my buddy has it on his ski boat. If I were to cover my deck I would want a wood looking product.

Good thought, I guess I don't want something that would be wet for a very long time.

I have 2 small kids who sit, play, stand on the swim platform - in your experience would SeaDek get hot enough that it would make it uncomfortable for them?

IMO,I don't think there would be a problem with little ones on SeaDek on a sunny day. The lighter the color the better.

Okay, thanks. I've ordered some samples - I'll leave them in the sun and test them out.

Ric, why don't you put down the CoolTeak version of Plasteak? I boat in the South and I have a slip neighbor who put CoolTeak in his Cobalt and it looks great. IMO, CoolTeak looks more like real seasoned teak than Plasteak does and I can see why it would be a lot cooler as well. He has only had it in his boat since late last summer and the next time I see him I will ask him how hot it gets but he is not the type guy to do something without studying the pros and cons first.
