Ah, it has the option of being open or not? Heh, I'm all for the chest-puffing power of a throaty exhaust note. It's fun. I'd just hate to get stuck with that noise ALL THE TIME.
I had some exhaust cut-offs on an old 68 Chevy. Used to be all sorts of fun to flip them open (electrically) just before stomping the go-pedal when racing some punk in a rice burner. Scared the beejeesus out them as the white four door Impala with a 'vette motor smoked their ass coming off the line. The look at the next light was always priceless! Granted, if there were any TURNS in the road I'd have been screwed. But straight-line drags to the next light, FUN!
Now it's just the horrendous gas mileage I get stomping the pedal on my Hemi Grand Cherokee. Leave it alone and get 20mpg. Drive it like a bank robber and you'll NEED TO rob banks to pay for the 11mpg you get. I suppose the old Chevy was probably just as bad (or worse) but that didn't matter as much when gas was under a dollar a gallon!
