Min draft on H210

We are considering buying the 2012 H210 but we are concerned about the min draft. Our cottage is on a long sand flat and the water level is down to only a couple of feet. Our current Maxim can no longer be driven into the dock. Does anyone have experience with the H210 in very shallow water? Can you really drive it at low speed trimmed fully up to the 16 in. draft?

I would say that you wouldn't want to do that on a regular basis. That would be extremely hard on the u joints.

How deep of a channel do you have? I agree with acguy that you'll put a lot of stress on the u joints if you drive with the trim fully up for extended periods of time. My guess is that if the Maxim can't make it, that the 210 will not either.

A couple of options would be to either use a trolling motor, buy an outboard, or check out jet drive boats. We switched from our Four Winns I/O to a Yamaha jet drive because of some shallower lakes and can idle through some pretty shallow water.

Min draft on the Maxum is 21" vs 16" on the H210. Really, a jet is probably the way to go. We just really liked the H210.

It's probably about 100" of the flat before the water drops off. It's really just in and out to the dock that is the issue.

How do you like your AR 210??

I agree, an I/O is better than a straight inboard in shallow water but an outboard is better yet because the whole power unit tilts and there is no concern with universal joints operating in an extreme angle. A jet would be a good choice too as long as you don't have eel grass, seaweed or other debris that could be easily sucked up in the intakes. I have been able to idle in and out in 2' of water in my '88 H-200 but I only do that when there is no alternative. The harbor where we keep it moored is a tidal flat and the water depth changes 7 feet from low to high tide.

+1 on the weeds, if its thick and you're going slow, there are going to be problems. That said, we love our Ar 210 and not having to worry about the trim. You still want about 3' of water to take off, but you can idle through shallows, or go very fast over them.

Thanks Rob. There aren't many weeds at all on our lake. It's the long shallow (about 2.5' when flat) sand flat to our dock which is giving us the headaches.

Having a 2009 boat with an SX-A compared to the older SX-M I have one major gripe about it living on a smaller lake.

Weeds.

That freaking "A" drive with it's smaller water inlet holes clogs up faster then anything I've ever seen. All the damn time. Not once ever on my older "M" drive did I ever have an issue.

I'm thinking the 16 to 18 inch draft is based on no interior weight like people or fuel etc...

Guess a bayboat would be best...short of an outboard I guess you could pole in and out....30 yards isn't bad if not against wind

The other thing too is! In shallow water you are more likely to suck up sand or mud. This will harm both the impeller & housing.

True that's why I try to limit my shallow water travels. I have had trouble with barnacles growing in the water intakes so I made a tool out of stiff wire so I could clean the out without pulling the boat out.
