Hey I'm looking at buying my first boat ever
The one I'm looking at is a 2007 four winns h180 with the v6 4.3l
Does anybody have any hints or tips to save me the hassle of buying a boat and later regretting buying that boat?
Any tips on what to look for when buying will be greatly appreciated
Thanks again
Nuno
I bought a 2006 H180 with 3L engine at the beginning of March this year from a private seller.
I paid just under $11K but the boat came with a bit rusty trailer and no bimini or trailer cover (just the bow and cockpit covers).
The seller threw in a tube and some safety equipment.
I'm quite happy with the boat, it's very stable and handles fair amount of chop.
I took it out on English Bay last Saturday when it was very windy and there were almost no motor boats out (just a lot of sail boats racing) and it handled itself quite well.
I couldn't plane most of the time as the chop was good 2ft and some places more but I was able to get out and anchor at a quieter place near shore and enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful day with friends.
But on the way back I planed most of the way surfing the waves and it was fun and the boat handled great.
The 3L engine is admittedly barely adequate and I wish I was able to afford the 4.3L but it's my first boat and my budget was limited and I wanted to get as new boat as possible so I went for the 3L and I figure I might sell it in couple years and get H190 with 4.3L
The cockpit is a bit tight in the H180 with the sundeck and extra one foot would make a difference, also for the bow area.
On the other hand smaller boats are easier to trailer (although that's not an issue for you with F350).
I think the H190 would be just fine for you and your family.
Good luck and maybe I'll see you on the water somewhere this summer.
