As mentioned in my previous post I am considering buying new H180 with 3.0 mercruiser .Would like to here of any shortcomings that I should be aware of.I have had a test drive and waterskied behind a friends 2 year old 170 horizon and was quite impressed

I have a 2001 180 with a 4.3L Volvo and sunsport seating. I believe my 180 is the same length as the new 190s. So far I have had no issues with my 180 and I use it to tube, ski, and wakeboard all summer. The one thing I would suggest is stepping up the 4.3L (190 HP) at a minimum. I had a 17 foot Sea Ray with a 3.0L Merc. and I am much happier with the 4.3L and it does not use that much more fuel than the 3.0L.

We have a '07 180 with the merc 3.0. Love it. The only time I wish I had a 4.3 was when we loaded the boat with 7 adults. Was a bit of a push getting out of the hole.

We've had 2 tubers behind the boat with 3 of us in it and it handles great! If I had the extra cash I might have done the upgrade to a 4.3.

I had at 2001 170 with the 3.0. Leaped on plane and never had an issue for power pulling the kids on the tube. Very economical. The only funky thing was the bolted on swim ladder. If you came off plane and turned to starboard as you did you could soak a person sitting in the starboard rear jump seat. But that came in handy a couple of times Opps how did that happen

We also have an '07 with the 3.0 (Volvo, however) and are also quite happy with it as well. I agree with Rob that the only time we wished we had more power was the one time last summer that I had the boat to capacity with people. If you are typically running with four or five people on board, it is plenty quick out of the hole for skiing.

All in all, it's a solid boat with great handling and economy.... we couldn't be more pleased.

I've got an 07 180 with a VP 3.0L. If you can find the money, I'd strongly suggest going with the 4.3L. While the 3.0L is adequate, you don't sacrifice much economy going to the 4.3L considering the performance gain. I regularly cruise with 4 or more people and you know the 3.0L is working to maintain a decent cruise speed. Its reliable, but is pretty rough and unrefined. Go with the 4.3L and you won't be sorry.

love my 3.0l but then again I have always been a 4 cyl kind of guy for ease of maintanance. Only time was with 7 people in the boat and me wakeboarding (200lbs) but it threw one hell of a wake LOL

Looked at a 3.0 but was told it would not pull up a big skier on a single ski. Got a 4.3 H190 and have been very happy with the performance (although maybe the 8.1 would be a nice option to have... ).

Seriously though, the fuel consumption difference between the 3.0 and the 4.3 is negligible as you have to work the 3.0 harder all the time, and the 4.3 pulls like a train up to 80kph. I have no problem getting up 2 skiers, 3 tubes, etc. etc.

Like they say, no substitute for cubic inches. Get the 4.3 - you won't regret it.
