Great observation. I believe that mine is a 19 spline. I will count and confirm before I order. Thanks!

I am going to have to call Mercury and ask if the make a propeller, or a hub kit that fits an SX drive. It never occured to me that they wouldn't.

They do make a hub kit for the SX. I just contacted a local marina about the High Five and asked if it is possible to try out a 19P and a 17P to see which is best. They said no and quoted me a price of $700.65 which seems at least $200 too high. The good news was that the hub kit was only $49.98.

I'm not sure if I read about these guys, http://www.jacosmarine.com/new_mercury_ ... r_sale.cfm, here or on a different forum, but they are selling the high five with free shipping in the US for $459.

I use aluminum props because it cuts down on galvanic corrosion caused by a big stainless prop next to your aluminum outdrive in salt water (moored in it 6 months/year). I have not paid more than $140 for one of them. I started with a 14.5x19, went to a 15x17 and may try a 15.5x15 next. That will put me at the high end of the max rpm for this engine (4400-4800).

Hi-Five is $425 at Midwest Propeller... BTW, I still have to tell you that you are going the WRONG way on pitch. Add a blade, add an inch.
http://midwestpropeller.com/Product/Mer ... hFive.html

$584 on iBoats,

That prop from Midwest is a quicksilver prop, not a mercury high Five. Both made by Mercury and I think the same basic design but the quicksilver does not have the exhaust vent holes behind the blades. Only the Merc prop has these which is why the quicksilver version is often cheaper.

From Mercury's website:
"If you’re upgrading from a three-blade propeller to a four-blade propeller, remember that many four-blade propellers generally turn 50 to 100 RPM less than a three-blade propeller with the same pitch."

Going from 3 to 5-blade would further decrease RPM. As previously mentioned, usually the 4 or 5-blade will have smaller diameter helping to limit this.

This is confusing. I am just going to have to beg, or borrow a few propellers from the local dealers and give them a try.

I am pleased to have found this forum. Like I said before, I don't know too many boat owners. My neighbor has a Ski Natique/MasterCraft "V" drive. I had to show him how to change the oil on his boat. He's a good guy, but works opposite hours from me so I don't see him much. I guess I could ask him the propeller question just to see what he says.

Thanks Guys!

I was looking around the forum and found so great modifications. Very cool. 8)

Hi Steve,

I was in EXACTLY the same boat as you with my H180 and Volvo 5.7GL/ SX drive (similar hull/ engine combo').
My original 3 blade 19P prop would rev out to 4800RPM (trimmed) and I upgraded to a Solas Amita 14x21P.
My RPM dropped to 4550RPM (trimmed) and it totally transformed how to boat handled.
You'll get more RPM and speed out of a stainless HR Titan 4 (of the same diameter/ pitch), if you want to invest in stainless?

Cheers.

Hi Deafwish
I replied to your post twice, but it didn't get posted. Hmmm. I must be doing something wrong.

I have a 14 1/2 21p aluminum propeller. It doesn't do as well for this task as the 19p. That's why I am considering the 4 blade. However, with my long list of boat and trailer maintenence this year, the propeller may have to wait. Thanks for the response.

Cheers!

R, Steve
