So I got ready to go out Sunday - and looked at the power steering reservoir. It was down to almost empty - 1/4 in from the bottom, and about 1 1/2 inches from low. I finally figured out about using dexron ATF in there (ATF in the power steering was a new concept for me) and filled it to normal, taking along an extra bottle.
(I figured I would at least find the leak) - was out on the river and went through a half tank of gas, pulled a tube for a little while, etc.

SO then I check the power steering - and it's still fine. No leaks anywhere, just some slightly oily river water (less than 3 teaspoons) in the bilge - That I cleaned up ASAP to prevent any of that going into the river. Any thoughts on this? My only one was that the pump went bad and the dealer replaced it (First boat, had it 2 weeks) but did not get enough fluid in there.

Thanks for all your help guys! Reading through the forum has answered a lot of "Stupid" questions.

I ran into the same thing about 2 years ago. No rhyme or reason. No issues and haven't had to add any fluid since. I say don't sweat it, and keep checking about twice a year.

Had the same thing. Went over every connection between the pump and the P/S actuator on the transom. Found that the nuts on the lines that go into the actuator, needed a slight tightening. No more leak after that. Look carefully at each connection, look under the pump, look at the lines going into the p/s cooler if it has one. You should use flare wrenches on those lines, they will not round off the nuts. They just have to be snug to seal, not tight with a dying strain.

For some reason mine leaks when boat sits up and never while in use. I figured the seals on actuator will leak but can't find oil trail.
