I have a Horizon 18RS with an OMC throttle and gear controller. I put a little too much pressure on the lever to force a sticking gear cable and smashed the alloy cable connector inside. As the tilt switch on it failed a long time ago I want to replace the whole thing. Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement. I have looked at the Teleflex SL3 and will fit 2 new type 33c cables but I am not sure if the controller fit in the hole in the side panel.

I replaced mine with this (Mercruiser engine though).

Replaced the old OEM control about 3 years ago as the gears inside had worn out. This is well built and has held up with no issues.
Here's an assembled picture of the control:

Did you have to cut out any more of the side panel to fit it in and did it cover up most of the existing hole. Not sure if the cables will be the correct ones for the Volvo 5.7GL engine and Cobra outdrive, I will check them out, but I think they should be pretty standard at the business end. The other thing I was worrying about was the thickness of the side panel, which I assume was no problem.

I just replaced mine on my Vista. Got the best price on Amazon and actually had to cut my original panel just a little bit to get it to fit in.

I did not have to cut anything. The outer plate on the Uflex unit was almost the same size as the quicksilver control that was on my boat- actually a tiny bit smaller.
This is what my old control looked like (not my picture):

Uflex does have dimensions and info on their site.

I just remembered that when I bought this it did not have the Neutral safety switch in the package- they missed it. I contacted Uflex and they sent a new one out right away- no questions asked. Not happy that they missed it in the first place, but I was happy with their customer service.

On my boat it wasn't too tough to replace it myself. Probably a hour or two, and only that long because I took my time and wanted to avoid any mistakes. Once installed I believe I needed to adjust my shift cable a bit.

I decided to go for the Teleflex SL3 as I fancied a plain black one which was available in the UK. I also fitted new TFXtreme cables which were a bit more expensive but very smooth.

Hope this picture is visible its my first try.

This would have been an easy fit with only a small amount of the side panel hole to cut out. Please don't make the same mistake as I did. When it says the maximum thickness of the panel it will fit is 20mm that's what it means, not 21 or even 20.5. As the bolts were long enough to fit the metal side plate I completed the job with both the new cables and got right to the end when I came to fit the outer cover and the handle itself. When I tightened the centre bolt of the handle that's when you find out that 20mm really means 20mm. I didn't take into account that the wood had swelled slightly over the years and also the leather covering increased the thickness.

I had to take the complete side panel off and remove the new controller to take a couple of mm off the inside of the side panel to reduce the thickness. Took for ages but I'm happy with the end result.

Apologies if the pictures don't appear.
