Hello, I have an H200 with a 5.0 Volvo Penta. My current prop is a 3 blade 21" pitch and wondering if a 4 blade would provide any advantage in acceleration and the ability to stay on plane at lower RPM's.

I have also been told that reversing with a 4 blade is not as responsive as a 3 blade but I am a little bit leery of that.

Your thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Dan

Its a yes to everything you have listed. Was by far the best thing I have done to our boat, going from 3 blade to 4 blade.

Trim tabs would help you stay on plane too.

I've never heard of that being an issue.

I lost maybe 2mph on top end speed. I kept the same pitch, 19, when going from 3 blade to 4 blade. Do think I need to got to an 18 pitch 4 blade as my max rpm is right at 4100-4200.

My mechanic says that the engine should run at 5000 rpm when at top speed. Dropping pitch will increase RPM's

On the topic of props...is there a noticable difference from Alum to stainless?

Yes!
I went from a Solas Amita 4 (14x21P) to a Solas HR Titan 4 (14x21P) and picked up 150RPM and 3MPH.
The Amita 4 was in brand new condition.

Do you typically match up the pitch when going to SS from Alum? I've been trying to do a little research and have found various opinions.

Interesting read about the difference between 3 & 4 blade props.

Generally, yes.
Because of the strength of SS, the designers can add more rake & cupping - which also increases performance.
Alloy prop's are generally an average blade design, due to flex.
