Something like a Garmin 441S which is a combination GPS/Sounder. It will show you bottom contours and can be set to alarm at a minimum depth like 6 feet or 2 meters in metric lol.
I'd also see if marine charts are available for where ever you are boating, because they are easier to read and study. When you zoom out on a GPS/sounder, set to GPS mode, then the obstructions and hazards disappear from the screen. The Garmin 441S will fit well in a smaller boat, on the top of the dashboard under the windshield.
