Thanks guys. I'll get a new cable replaced. I usually work on my own cars so hopefully I can figure it out.

It's interesting that they built or used a trailer that doesn't allow the drive to be lowered. Anyway, I'd recommend storing as low as you can for the sake of the bellows.

The boat was on a slip so this was a trailer the dealership put with it. It's from a Sea Ray boat, but appears it was meant for a size up. If you look back at the picture of it with my truck you can see the tail lights are almost even with the end of the transom. The outdrive is as low as I can get it, which seems to be just a tick shy of vertical.

You mention that you will be trailering this boat often. Will you be landing the boat onto the trailer by walking it on at a dock or will you be powering onto the trailer? If the latter, you might find it difficult to handle the boat with the drive up that high.

Depending on how it effects the tongue weight, you might be able to move the boat further back on the trailer.

Very sharp looking boat!

The first photo I posted was right after I got it in the garage and the drive was still up. Here is a photo of how far down I can get it. You can see how the runner is right where the speed pickup is as well.

Going back and looking at the front of the trailer I can definitely move the bow stop back behind the light.

You can see where it looks like it was in that position at one time. It just seems like there is hardly any weight at the front of the boat as it is now but I guess if it was on the factory trailer the back would be hanging further back than it is now. Here is a photo of a Sea Ray with the bow stop further back:

Yes, the FW factory trailers stop at the real transom, not the extended running surface. The bunks only stick out behind the transom by an inch or two. The bunk would not usually be in line with the speedometer pickup.

While you could move it back, proper tongue weight is much more important. The absolute minimum tongue weight that I would try is 300 lbs. 400-600 lbs is more proper for a boat that size.

I would suggest the only reason the boat is sitting in this location is because the last owner didn't want to move the marker light. From what I can see in the photos the winch and roller need to move aft about 6" or so. I agree that the transom should be inside the end of the bunk by only a few inches. I would be surprised if this change had a significant impact on the tongue weight, but again be mindful of the results. As for the speedo pickup, I wouldn't let it bother you just yet. Mine gets caught up on the bunks every time I pull my boat out if I'm not perfectly aligned... And that happens often enough. Between its flexibility and the adjustment to your trailer, you should be ok. If it breaks, get a new one and relocate it.

At the end of the day I think the time you spend upfront to setup the trailer properly will reduce your stress at the launch. Boats were designed to reduce stress not create it!

I also recommend vertical guide posts. I trailer a lot also and they helped make launching and retrieving my boat a breeze this past season.

Here is a link to a few methods of confirming tongue weight.
