Hello captains, I noticed that theres water leaking out of the bottom of my head where it meets the block it rusty and water leaks looks like its getting worse?? any ideas what it can be head gasket is goin?? its not over heating or any slushy gunk in the oil..thnx in advance...

Yes, that head gasket will need to be replaced.

Head gaskets have to seal several things:
. Combustion chamber gas pressure
. Oil Passageways
. Water passageways
Fortunately, yours is only leaking from water passageway to the outside, so you don't have milky oil.

If you do this yourself, it would be good to post pictures of the leak area when you get it apart. Head gaskets must be put on between clean/dry surfaces. If needed, the Head can be re-machined flat at a local automotive machine shop, but not much you can do about the block. Usually no gasket conditioner is recommended, but I would consider a little gasket sealer around that part of the water passageway where you had the rust.

thanks Ray for the info I just noticed the leak and I have a labor day trip coming up I was considering just putting a gasket sealer to get me thru the weekend and tear it apart when I get back, in your experience would that be a good idea??...I still have good compression no smoke or water in the oil...thnx again

You would be taking a risk that you could get water in your oil. If you are boating in fresh water, that is not the end of the world, but it does take a while to get if flushed out. (other users have reported 3-5 oil changes before the oil cleared up).
If you are going to use it labor day weekend, I would skip the gasket sealer (since it could push water towards an oil passage instead of leaking into your bilge).

If you have time, you could tighten the head bolts: Buy a valve cover gasket, remove the valve cover, tighten the head bolts, then put the valve cover back on with the new gasket. You would want to borrow a good torque wrench if you don't have one, and follow the shop manual instructions for both tightening sequence and torque. (sorry, I don't have my manual with me to look that up)

thnx for the info Ray, after a better view and angle by a shop it was determined that it is not the head gasket but the top head gasket that's leaking water it was running down and running along the lower head gasket making it appear to be the gasket between the block and head...what gasket is that in between exhaust manifold or manifold?? also the tech said I can run it one last time for labor wknd..

He would have to be talking about the gasket for the intake manifold. The Exhaust Manifold Gasket does not have any water passing through it. The valve cover gasket does not either.

That's good news...that's much less work than the head gasket. Have a good labor day trip.
