bugsdoc, OUCH!!! What kind of setup do you have? I'm sure that someone on here would have the same thing and be able to walk you through it or refer you to a source where you could get instructions, pictures, etc. It is easy to do on most setups, just a matter of what you have.

Yeah, really. That why I picked up an extra set of tools specifically for changing impellers. I got down in there and figured out what was needed. Then picked up some cheapies from Sears and Harbor Freight. I believe it ended up being two sockets, a ratchet and a pair of box-end wrenches. I keep them in a ziploc baggie along with a couple of those extra silica gel packets. I sprayed 'em with a shot of BOEShield to keep corrosion away (but you could just as easily use WD-40). Now if/when I need to replace an impeller I'll *know* I can do it without trouble. I've no desired to have an impeller ruin the afternoon, take a couple hours to get towed back and then bend over for the labor.

As an aside, I keep those tools in a plastic 'ammo box'. It fits perfectly between the engine stringers. It was around $15 from a local army surplus kind of store. It's also where I stow a couple of the rarely used bigger tools, like long screwdrivers, wrenches and a hammer. This lets me keep a much smaller toolbox under the head sink (pliers, screwdrivers, etc). The box is also about the same size as a battery, but a bit taller. So look around your engine compartment, there may be room for stashing one.

In case some aren't aware, a failed impeller can ruin more than your afternoon. It can ruin your engine, as pieces of it flow into the water jackets in the block or heads, get lodged there, and block cooling water flow. I would expect any insurance or warranty claim from this to be challenged and possibly denied due to improper maintenance.

This is also why it's a good idea, if you do find a damaged impeller, to try to account for all the pieces of it.

I'm sure it was Phil Dill and that is the going rate around here. $75 an hour plus shop expense & tax.

Yeah, $75-80 is typical for an hour of labor, but it shouldn't have taken them more than an hour - and an hour for an impeller is kind of high for a dealer IMO.

 Of course it was Phil Dill :!:

2 hours of retail labor @ $95.00/hour :!:

It took them less time to replace the recalled Holley Carb :x

My second attempt at my Maiden Voyage went without a hitch yesterday. It was a beautiful day on Pickwick Lake. The water was a little chilly, but the kids still wanted to swim so we took a quick dip. With the new impeller, the boat ran great. The wife and two kids enjoyed it and the 3 1/2 year old took a nice nap under the bow filler cushion (we were a little concerned she would get very grumpy if she didn't get a nap, but thanks to someone's suggestion, she loved "her little space").

Now I've got even more questions, but I'll browse around a little to try find related threads.
