Ok so here goes a question for everyone that is involved in water sports and if your not feel free to chime in.

I just purchased my boat as most of you know and yes I posted pictures already. For the water sports question if I want to wake board which I'm learning how to do or tube, who do you guys trust to captain your boat while you get pulled????

Trust? Trust to captain? Trust can be kind of a strong word.
Uhhh, I trust Captain Morgan - then it doesn't hurt so bad when the admiral or my buddies get thier oppertunity for payback.
The admiral I guess most of the time. I don't let her know I am insured so as far as she's concerned - she has more to loose than she does to gain The numbers are in my favor - for now.
If I have had a week where I feel like instigating then it doesn't slow her down a lot . . .
If I let my buddies captain its at the end of the day so I don't waste a good afternoon in the fetal position crying.

Well I've done my share of tubing and skiing so unless the area we are in is clear I pretty much stay at the helm. Don't get me wrong my co-owner (she who makes the payments) and the boy drive under my direct supervision but not without me right there.

On the other hand I've been out with a couple of my friends who are or were boat owners and trust them to get the job done if I want to play around but unless they have felt the pain of owning a boat they are free to ride in the front or the back.

I cannot really answer your question, but in my experience I've trusted most of my friends over the years on the last boat. The new one has been a bit of a re-learning curve. The throttle is very touchy, and responsive. The speedo is very slow to respond. It took a few painful tries before we realized the skiier was doing 30; not the 10 mph displayed on the speedo. Most of my friends have had the oportunity to drive, and are getting more accustomed to the boat's rapid/touchy response. I also have my GPS mounted on the dash, so there's no confusion as how fast we are going. Now, if I can just get them to turn AWAY from the skiier, instead of toward me life would be great!

When I wakeboard there are three people I trust.
1st is my wife, if it's her and a spotter she drives great & keeps an even speed, add more people + loving to talk = to much or not enough speed. This is when perfect pass would be great. I will usually get her back when she's riding though. We are on a small lake so when I turn the boat around I will slow down to where she sinks. As I am bringing the rope around to her she will then usually ask me what happpend, I always say in the nicest way "oh I am sorry I must of been talking?".
When boat is full, I will have one of my 2 brother inlaws drive.

As long as your not on the open ocean in a cargo ship. Let someone drive that knows how to drive a boat. I have let a few choice friends of mine take my boat while I was out on the other boat at another lake. A true friend will respect your stuff more then you do.

My wife. Though, having two bulged discs in my lumbar area now, I'm usually the one driving because I can't take the risk of injuring anything on a rough tube ride, etc. Good thing I like driving...

Wife #1, Friend that grew up boating #2. Anyone else, enjoy the ride.

Our 6yo currently serves as the spotter (with adult supervision), but he relays the signal and has rope patrol. Another 6 years and he'll move up the ladder (law).

My wife has gotten good at pulling me, but there have been a few times where conversation has taken over

Sorry to hear about the discs Mike, very painful. Nothing like a wicked tube ride to put everything back into place

I trust my wife and blackmagicweekends-since he is my brother and happens to own a 220 exactly like mine. Plus he's reading along now Also my dad, who's got TONS of boating, driving, and watersports experience. I'd trust any of them to drive without my even being present.

I'd trust my wife's sister's brother (my brother-in-law), who has several years of boating, driving, and slalom experience, any time. I'd also trust him to drive without my presence.

I'd trust my sister's husband (my other brother-in-law) as well since he as SOME boating experience. This one I'd trust to pull me, but not to operate without me there. Nothing personal, but I know he has nowhere near the experience of the other 4.

First....only trust the other person responsible for the payment (i.e. wife). Next....trust close friends who have, or who have had a boat. Your significant other should become familiar with driving the boat anyhow. In my opinion, there is nothing worst than the husband backing the trailer into the water....tying off the boat to the dock...parking the truck/trailer and returning to the dock to take the boat out (while the wife sits there the whole time).
