Well had a great holiday on the lake yesterday. Probably the first full day we had to spend with the boat and really play to our hearts content.
Really happy with our choice.
Now one thing I thought was odd was while getting up to plane one of the kids noticed there was a pile of water in the anchor locker - I looked and there was quite a bit - probably 8 - 10 inches. Then while cruising I checked again and as expected it had drained to nearly nothing.
I kept my eye on it and noted that after coming off plane it would take on water then when getting up on plane it would drain out again.
The lake was not that rough and to me it seems rediculous that water would run up the drain (to me this implies it is too low on the hull) and into the locker where you would keep rope for the sake of keeping it soggy and ultimately getting funky. I know its not rain water because it was dry while in the warehouse and I just took it out yesterday morning; its not like the boat was loaded (3 adults - 3 kids).
Has anyone else noticed this - maybe peek in there next time you're out.

Just the opposite on my '04 Sundownere; it only gets rain water in there, that never drains out fully because both of the 2 drains are too high and are actually above the bottom of the locker! Yes, the rope gets wet and horribly slimy! I keep on meaning to build up the bottom of the locker to the level of the drains somehow, but I haven't yet because it would mean the nuts on the back of the tow eye would no longer be accessible. The other viable option I suppose it just to have something in there, keeping the rope above the standing water.

Or, redrill the drain holes so that are where they will work ( but then I'd have to fill in the old holes).

I'll check for this, but haven't noticed my rope wet when pulling it out to anchor.

One strange thing I do notice: While running WOT, water drips on my legs below the helm. That's got me puzzled. No one is brave enough to crawl under there to look at 60 mph though.

Hey Brent87LT1 - Mine does that too. It was raining on and off all weekend, and I gave up trying to cover it at the perfect time, so it did get wet. Still, I thought it was very odd that my legs were getting wet from underneath the helm - just little drops of water, but lots of them - while running at speed in dry weather... anyone know what this is?

Water dripping from the helm is your speedometer tube. You've either got a crack/pinhole in the tubing, or a leak in your speedo. Definitely a warranty issue on a new boat.

Blessed, if you've got that much water in your anchor locker, something's wrong. I wonder if that water is actually trapped in your bilge, runs toward the back while under way, and runs back to the front when stopped. Just speculating, but many FW boats have issues when new of drain passages being clogged with manufacturing debris.

Your under-dash water dripping may be a leaking speedometer water tube. seems likely that it drips more at higher speeds, too.

Interesting about the anchor locker, I have one on my 88 Horizon and I was considering putting in a drain like the newer FWs have. This one drains right into the ski locker under the bow floor and the water would wind up under the gas tank and eventually into the the rear bilge. This probably contributed to the rot problems I spent the summer of 2006 fixing. Also caused mildew under the mooring covers. But after looking at the anchor locker, I realized that I'd have to build up and re-glass the area where the drain is now and even then, if the drain hole was well above the water line water could still get in. So I wound up having the bow cover re-done to keep water out of the anchor locker and that worked out great. First time since I've had the boat, the anchor lines are dry, ski locker is dry, no water under the gas tank, etc.

my speedo leaks at high speeds also

And definetly get the boat checked for the water issue... This is my 2nd summer and the only time there has been ANY water was when the cooler drained throughout the day. I don't think my bilge has ever even turned on

That explains it. I guess it makes sense now that you mention it. I always thought it was tiny amounts of water leaking from somewhere after a rain, but was disappointed it could be that.

Brent87LT1 and Paradise - I guess we're making trips to the dealer. It's odd to me how many of us have this issue. Mike, do you know of this being a common issue? I was surprised that a few of you knew what it was right away. I guess that's why I log on here though... Thanks very much for the info. I'll get it fixed right away.

Before you take it in and potentially lose water time, just crawl under there and look at the back of the speedo. The tube is just a black rubber hose that pushes onto the back. Maybe it is just half-assed pushed onto the back of the speedo.

OK. I'll do that tonight. I did call my dealer though, and they said it's fairly common. He said it shouldn't be an issue, but it often is. Once repaired they have a low frequency of re-occurance. Anyway, he said he'd fix it for me on my way to the lake on Saturday, so that's worst case.
