The more I read the more things I see have changed on the SS from the intro model. I picked up my SS at the 06 fall boat show in Dallas.

Gauge lights went from blue to white
seats had tan added
lost the stainless dash for woodgrain
lost the helm remote for stereo at helm
combing pockets went tan
added a hood on the glove box
chrome blower vents went to white plastic

Yeah I understand that FW will even change things within the same model year, so there could be differences like those you list between a February/March 2006 SS and a July/August 2006 SS. I think it's a matter of parts on hand.

I think some of it has to do with the fact that they have to change things so the boat appears new to any prospective buyer, especially one that's been looking, but hasn't bit yet. Some of it may be cheaper quality, but I have to say I am happy with the boat so far. Had a few minor issues, but all were fixed by me or the dealer quickly. We purchased during the boat show as well and so we walked through several other brands we were considering and I kept coming back to the Four Winns. It had as good or better fit and finish for the price as the others we looked at such as: Yamaha, Regal, Chapparel and Crownline. Just my 2 cents.

Hmm. That must be easy to say, Impulse - with that black missle you have parked there . . .

I just dont see how anything listed could better the sales numbers. The base price didnt go down but FW cheapened the boat.

Not to belittle the variances you noted but I don't view it as cheapening a upperscale model as much as I do as economizing production overhead by limiting a parts inventory for a selected market niche. I can say that because I don't have an SS and the more the H & SS are similar (less a gel coat) the closer I am to having one as well
I would put money on it that the general public never notice the variances we do here. Few of them can actually distinguish the difference from model to model much less see them side by side.
Incidentally, if anyone ever figures out where to score the stainless vent cover please share . . . I want some too 8)

Anyone try their FW dealer? Maybe they can still be ordered? Never mind - just re-read and realized the FW versions are chrome, not SS.

Of those variations, I don't see how it cheapened it. I think it added value by increasing the aesthetics.
