So do they store them outside?
Sounds like the sun causes the bleeding that must be cleaned off before each use...?

What kind of vessel are you waiting on?

Huge SL fan here!
How it looks in the water is the only time it counts.

Of course, guys like 230 Mike have to be more concerned about the curb appeal.

Our experience with ours is that after several cleanings and a lot of use it has lightened up in color a little and is noticably more tolerable. I'm still very glad we have it and yes the deck surface below it has the non-slip surface on it.

I know that Mark (the one I referenced in the pic) does store his outside....I am not 100% sure if its kept covered for any or all of the time...but it is stored outside.

I don't have the pad. I'm a clutz, and have still not slipped of the swim platform. I do like some of the non-skid options listed above and may look into them further.

Had it on our 240 and LOVED it.

We had some super hot days last summer in Seattle and it never got un-tolerable.

But then again - somehow I always seemed to splash up some water on that swim step from rogue waves and coming off plane too fast I guess.

There is a product called Sea Deck that is a stick on adhesive sheet with non skid molded in, and comes in a variety of colors.

http://www.seadek.com

BTW the original non skid on my 21 year old FW is just fine!

I cut the top off a milk jug so I can quickly scoop and dump a gallon of water on that thing.

Hmm, now you have me thinking about getting it on my 260h (due to be delivered in Feb. sometime). I was curious about eh "non-slip" embedded in the gel coat...it didn't look too much non-slip. My Sea Ray has snap in carpet on the swim step that matches the cocpit carpet. Maybe I'll go that route....

Optimus -- I had it on my 240 last summer while I was moored on Lake Washington. The mat never really got overheated, and was definitely valuable for those "prop checks" that all the men do so regularly during a day on the lake.

Carpet would accomplish the same goal.

I'd get the 260... see what you think... it can be added very easily if you decide that's what you want to do. If you can screw a screw down - you can install the snaps for this thing easily.

Cougarcruiser- I know what you are saying, and I agree for boating here on the westside. However 90% of my time is on Lake Chelan...August is sometimes 100plus degree days. But a little splash of water on it should cool it down. Isn't that what the transom shower is for :-)? And certainly it would be more durable than carpet.
Anyone know how the material reacts to duck poop? In my marina and late in the season the ducks LOVE the swim steps. Typically I put the orange construction netting across my swim step...but at least once a season I forget.

I initially looked at some after-market products as I didn't like the FW mat. So far I'm happy enough with the non-skid surface - nobody's slipped, and it's had a lot of use from clumsy adults all the way to toddlers.

Anyway, here's some of the products I was looking at back then:

http://www.airjunky.com/traxxed/

http://hydroturf.com/products.php?cat=S ... Hydro-Turf (makes Gator Trax and others)

http://www.seadekstore.com/largesheets.aspx

I almost went with the seadek product.

There are great (and cheaper) alternatives to the FW mat.

Bottom line... keep the mat wet and it'll stay cool.

The FW mat is great because it's custom fit for your boat. Just install the snaps and off you go.

I have experience with hydroturf from previous jet skiing days... That's definitely good stuff as well! I wonder if that would be a little too soft though? Might feel like you are walking on a mattress?

Anyone actually try it on something other than a jet ski?
