Question...I took out my 06 220 yesterday noticed a high pitched screaching/rubbing sound every time I accelerated. The noise would go away once I went to idle.

The noise always came back once I moved out of idle and continued regardless of speed or duration of speed. noise would only go away when I went to idle.

I also noticed that my boat "felt" a little rough and would "shimy" a little, for lack of a better word every time I put her into a turn. I keep my boat in pristine condition and have not mistreated her or had any accidents. This is also the first time I have noticed anything of this nature. I am taking her in to the dealers service tech to have them take a look. Does anyone have any clues to pass alone to me so I sound like I know what I'm talking about before I go in on Monday?

It could be belt noise? Try spraying some silicone on the belt and see if that helps. I have the same problem on my port engine and a spray of silicone stops it for a short time. The belt was dertermined to be "worn" and has been replaced with my spare by the dealer. I haven't gotten the boat back as of yet so I'll see if I have it solved. I thought at first it might be one of the idler pulleys but they said they were fine.

Thanks!!!! I was hoping it would be something simple like that. The noise didn't seem to be effecting the engines performance....it was just annoying as hell for us. I will try the silicone spray idea and see what happens.

Normally I'd say it was the belt also, but I don't know how an '06 belt could already be worn. Odd.

I would stay away from spraying the belt. Make sure its tight enough first. You want the belt to move no more then 1/4". Id there is more play then that, tighten it up. Do not get it too tight or you will have problems.

This is almost certainly a serpentine belt configuration with a non-adjustable (i.e., self adjusting) idler pulley. Other than replacing the belt when worn and replacing the idler when it wears out (should be a long time), there's no maintainance to do on it.
