So do you hire a local transport company to haul to your house in the fall and then back to the marina in the spring? What does that run?

When do you wash the hull ? Must be only before you launch?

We Long Islanders are lucky that way, mostly no pesky home owners assns telling you what to do....many people keep their boats in their driveway for winter storage. That's where mine lives for the winter too.

So hears the deal. Saved a bundle by switching to "private driveway" winter storage. Not all neighborhoods would allow this on Long Island thou.
Went thru pics for fun. Usually when we take pics I don't even get around to looking at them. With the forum I got a kick out of looking at pics I have not seen in a while.
So yes they are from last summer.
This will actually be the 3rd season. Took possesion end of summer 07. Put on 50 hours. Last summer only ran 50 hours. (fuel $5.00 per gallon). Hopefully will have more time and fuel will cost less this summer!
When I did pull her out the outdrives were encrusted with barnacles. Never seen anything like it. Will have some chore to carefully scrape them off. Any recommendations are appreciated.
Radar was added at the Marina where she was purchased. They did a great job. Can not see any wires. Four Winns Engineers designed a custom stainless steel mount welded into the arch to hold the dome. Amazing job. Don't know if this will be offered as an option for future H310's but it should.
Used a local boat tranpsort company to haul. I supplied the material and they do the blocking. Cost $200-$300 each way.
I am 15 minute drive from the boat ramp. Once in it takes around 45 minutes to get off shore.
If you mess with google earth you can check out what Long Island is all about. We are in Oceanside, NY. Jones Inlet is one of the main access points from the intercoastal channels to the Atlantic Ocean.

I had a bad year with barnicles too, enough to make me go with an outboard next time. My boat stays in the water up in Huntington all season, but if you don't want barnicles, pulling it out mid season and repainting the antifouling paint on the drive is the way to go. I used to have the boat yard do the drive in addition to the hull bottom paint, but I think they put a coat of spray on it and it doesn't last that long. This season coming I am going to do the drive myself and give it 3 coats of Primocon and 3 coats of Trilux, that should do it, and wherever I can I will brush it on for a thicker coating. Spray for the nooks and crannies in the pivot housing that you can't get a brush in. You also get them on the driveshaft bellows, that has to get painted too.

So you are in Oceanside, how deep is the water on the South Shore? Here it's pretty deep as long as you stay in the channels, but we do also have rocks so you have to be careful. We have a lot of nice places to visit, Northport, Huntington, Lloyd Harbor and Cold Spring Harbor. With a boat the size of the 310, running across the Sound to Conn on a nice day would be fun. It's only about 10-11 nautical miles from where we keep our boat. Some days the Sound is like glass but when the winds kick up in the afternoon it can get rough.

The south shore has its deep areas and shallow areas (sand bars) so you have to stay in the marked channels. It is easy to run aground. Once off shore you are dealing with the ocean so mother nature is in charge. I watch the weather reports closely and stay within site of land. The 310 runs great in 6 foot seas but with a wide open boat you can get good and wet. When you are sitting in the bow moving at 30MPH the kids have a ball. Its like a roller coaster.
Would love to work out a way to come up to the north shore. Since you really can not stay overnight we would need a hotel/marina we could stay at. Any ideas?

Well it depends on where you want to go, Huntington has West Shore Marina on West Shore Rd, you could call and ask about slip space and places to stay, there are no big hotels but there are some bed and breakfast type places around, then in Northport Harbor there is Seymours, you might be able to rent overnight dock space there, I'd call both and see what they say. Seymours has a gas dock and there is one in Huntington Harbor as well, along the channel. There is a really nice restaurant (Prime, on New York Ave in Halsite) that is along the water, right off the channel, you can call and make a reservation and pull your boat up right there and have lunch or dinner on the back deck overlooking the harbor, beautiful spot.
For launching, the ramp at Mill Dam road in Huntington is a very good one, wide, with docks right there to make it easy. Only issue is you might have to pay for a permit. And the channel leading out of Huntinton Harbor is LONG....probably at least a 1/2 an hour from the ramp, till you get to the end of it at the beginning of Huntington Bay, then you're out in the Sound. Also you have to be careful with the channel when you are just about at the entrance to the harbor, gotta stay in the channel. You could also look at the marina in Cold Spring Harbor,I have driven by it but never stopped in to look around.
