So i had a little episode this Saturday with the boat. I was pulling the boat out from the backyard and on the way down from my slopping front yard and the road, the skag bottomed out pretty hard. Remarkable the skag looks better then I would have expected but I was wondering everyones take on it. Should I fix it with a cover or leave it? Do you think anything could have been damaged with the engine given the upward pressure that was put on the drive. Everything looks normal on the engine. thanks!

Kinda hard to say without clearer pics but from what I can tell, I think I'd agree with cleaning it up and painting it. When the time comes, it can be repaired - they repair far worse skeg damage than that - but be sure to have someone do it who knows what they're doing.

That's nothing - I've taken much larger chunks out of mine before with no resultant problem. I eventually had it fixed (easy job) and installed a stainless steel Skeg Gard just for extra protection. The skeg is there specifically to protect your prop and drive - looks like it worked!

bend it back to as straight as possible, file the sharp edges down to prevent cuts and don't sweat it, unless oil is leaking out, then more than likely you have cracked the casing.

Thank you all for your comments. It was a stupid accident but not the end of the world. I noticed some fluid on the ground today and after inspection i see that hydraulic fluid is leaking from one side. I am dropping it off at the dealership next weekend. Any idea what it could be?
