I am interested in what people's thoughts are regarding purchasing an extended warranty for their boat engine. I have both an aftermarket and Volvo being priced out for me right now and have the option to extend up to an additional five years. One of the options I may use it wait until next summer and purchase a warranty then. I was told as long as you have more then two months left on your original factory warranty you may purchase additional coverage. I will update with the price and coverage when I get the information.

What are your thoughts and experiences?

Jeff

Volvo 2+4, 0 deductible. Don't pay more than 1000-1200 for it. Cost is around the 750-800 range, or at least it was for a 5.7gxi in 2008.

When negotiating for purchase, get the dealer to throw in the Volvo 2 + 4. Sometimes it's that simple. My Dealer threw it in before we got down to 'serious' negotiations.

+1. Don't pay anything out of pocket for it.

+2 - should not be an issue for a dealer to throw this in.

I have been considering extending the warranty on my 2007 H180 with the VP 3.0.I emailed VP yesterday and got a phone from a warranty sales person who represents VP. He quoted me $1120.00 US dollars for 4 years. He is emailing the coverage info. I was surprise to discover VP does not mange their own extended warranty program. I will be contacting my local Canadian dealer for a price.

This is what I was quoted on an aftermarket warranty, seems a little steep and will be contacting VP through my dealer.

+ 1 yr total cost of warranty pkg $1563.92

+ 2 yrs total cost of warranty pkg $1672.40

+ 3 yrs total cost of warranty pkg $1960.55

+4 yrs total cost of warranty pkg $2087.11

All taxes are included in the pkg pricing and pricing has been based on a $100 deductible. The Seals & Gaskets option has been included also. With the 3 and 4 year packages, the Guaranteed Price Refund has been included which means if you keep your boat for the duration of the full warranty and don’t ever have to make a claim to the warranty company, you will get $1000 back on the policy!

What are your thoughts?

Jeff

Is that in Canadian dollars?

I'd shop around.

Yeah that's Canadian dollars. For those prices I would go 4 years or not at all, it seems you have to pay a lot just to buy in. My issue is the prices seem steep. I am waiting to hear back for the Volvo pricing.
