So I bought some gear for adding a second battery.

Here's what I got:
http://bluesea.com/category/2/productline/overview/329

Can anyone tell me what size(s) cabling I will need to set this up properly. I am looking at a vendor on Ebay called Genuinedealz that I have found good feedback on to purchase the cable. Unless someone has a better source recommendation.

I figure some of you here are using this setup and can make proper recommendations on what sizes of cable I should use for the connections with this system. Maybe there is a chance someone has a horizon 180 RS that can tell me the lengths of cable they used to configure so I can get the wire pre-terminated as I don't have the gear to do it.

Thanks,

Jason

I bought my cables from the same ebay seller. Real good product at a good price. I used 4 gauge wire and just measured out what I needed. Had it from them in a few days.

In my H200SS, I used 10 feet of cable each for positive and same for negative.

Hey, I did the same thing last season. Blue Sea Systems Add-a Battery and genuinedealz.com for the battery cables. I used abot 14" cables from the switch to the acr, but forget the other lengths. I can tell you that I ran a separate ground to the front of the engine block for the second battery. Separation of house and starting systems was simple on my 200. I'll dig up the link to my install - might help.

Here's my earlier post:
http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1956

The battery install pics are pretty far down in the post, and now that I look back, there's not a lot of detail. Still, gives you an idea of one way it could be done. I used #4 105c cables with tin lug cable crimps with 3/8" holes in color red to connect the ACR to the switch, and doubled the cables to the respective battery positive terminals on the switch posts. The battery cables were 4' long, 2AWG with 2AWG tin lug cable crimps with 3/8" holes in color red - I had them install the connectors, and they do nice work. Then the house and existing starter cable went to the other posts on the switch. Blue Sea Systems technical support gave me the opinion that fusing is not required on battery cable lengths under 10', as mine are 4' I did not fuse between the switch and batteries. As I already mentioned, I used the existing ground to the rear of the engine block for one battery, and a new ground cable (a 3' 2AWG cable with 3/8" connectors in black) to a new connection to the engine block at the front o the engine block for the other battery. I did not use the ACR's Start isolation. I did not initially run a remote indicator lamp to the helm, although I eventually did and found it's of little value. Let's see, there was also a 14G ground wire from the ACR to one of the batteries, think that's about it. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, I have my install packet on hand with a ton of info, - it was a fun project!

Jim,

"Then the house and existing starter cable went to the other posts on the switch."

So looking at your pix. the two posts that are empty were where you made these connections with the house and starter cable, you just don't have them connected yet in your pix?

Thanks,

Jason

Exactly right. The smaller cable that leads from the helm circuit breaker is the 'house' side, and the 2AWG cable leading back to the starter is the, well you know.

I then ran certain other accessories directly to the appropriate battery terminal. For example, the stereo amp to the house battery and the backup bilge pump to the starting battery.

I did mine about 5 years ago so the details are a little fuzzy but since I put the second batt on the opposite side from the first one, the run for the pos cable from that batt to the switch is about 9 feet long. So although I used 2 gauge for the other cables, this one I used 1/0 cable which is a good deal thicker in size. I also ran a seperate ground for each battrey to the bellhousing.
