My boat is two years old now. I store it indoors in Fort Mohave near Lake Mohave AZ. (Laughlin, NV). I have only used the boat in fresh water. 2 weeks ago I towed the boat home to California to have it serviced and address minor warranty issues with my original dealer. (My warranty expires in May 2009). Before I return the boat to storage In AZ it will be living with me at home and as of this afternoon it's available for use "Right Now". Question.....Would you put your fresh water only (so far) boat into the Pacific ocean? My thought would be to jam over to Catalina island leaving Long beach and stay over night returning early AM the following morning (avoiding the afternoon southern swell) or would you refrain from using your boat in salt water altogether?

There is nothing to fear, I run my boat in saltwater all the time.

I use my boat half salt/half fresh. Many people can never tell its ever been in salt. A good wash down and engine flush and you are good to go. I've never had problems...of course a galvanized trailer has always been underneath my boats and I pull the boat out every day. If you have a painted trailer, try to wash it down after you splash the boat...especially if you are staying somewhere overnight...don't let the salt sit on the trailer too long.
Have fun!

Heck yeah, just do it. My only question to you is have you made sure your vessel is safe (size, fuel calculations, VHF radio, etc...) for a trip like this? I assume you have some sort of navigational aid to help get you there?

Is a 24ft boat ok in that area of the ocean for the 26 mile trek? I have no clue about that. Assuming all things are a "go", DO IT and take some pics!!!
