I'm interested in hearing more about at Alpine amp. They were just out went I went with the 300 v2 and 250/1 that I used. I love those amps but was intrigued by the one you installed.

I was going with JL but I'm sure your aware every stereo shop owner talks down what they don't have and they try to build up what they have available. The shop I finally decided to buy the equipment from was an authorized JL and Alpine dealer and they had the JL's on the shelf. The salesman told me he had no problem selling me anything I wanted but suggested listening to these Alpines. They are new to market which kinda makes me nervous but they sure sound good.

I rationalized that these speakers would fit better in the swoop shape of the liner and the installation would require less cutting due to the smaller diameter speakers but the installation of the component tweeter meant cutting 4 additional holes. Also I liked the silver grill covers. I think they match the stainless steel accents of the boat and they are different than the white or black grills out there. The only difficulty I experienced was the speaker mounted in front of the ice chest barely fit due to the depth similar to the pictures of the JL's I've seen posted here. The Alpines have a list price of $330.00 a pair but I purchased these for $225.00. I see them on the internet and eBay for about $190.00.

Check out JL's new line of MHD amps... they are similar to the PDX line from Alpine.

Although, JL is VERY proud of them for how much they cost.

Yeah, I agree. I looked at them (briefly!!!) because I liked the size of them, and the fact that they will run cooler. I went with the conventional M4500, and it seems to work very well. No complaints. I'm not running woofers though, and if I was perhaps more amp would have found it's way into my boat... You just never know.

I really have my eye on an MHD 600/4

But at nearly a 50% premium over the M6600... I'm just not sure it's worth it.

It greatly depends on how well I can convince the admiral that the extra money is worth it. Because you sure won't see a return on the investment for resale.

It's purely a luxury decision.
