just purchased a marine radio for my horizon. it's a 2000 19' 25th anniversary addition. i bought the radio before looking for a mounting place and now wondering where the hell to put it? under both dashes, port and starboard it's just empty, nothing to mount to directly underneath. i was hoping to mount it under there on the starboard side somehow but after taking a quick look tonight seem stumped as to where to mount it.

We are off to Powell next week and once we leave the truck we never go back till we are ready to leave. we'll spend 7 days at a time on the water and figure this is probably a smart piece of equipment to have on board at least one of the vessels.

anyone mount one in a horizon or have any ideas or better yet pictures?

thanks all.

Ha..!! Been there... And I always thought it was just me!

I looked everywhere for a place to mount my Icom VHF. Asked the delaer - no suggestions. Really wanted to do a flush mount...

I ended up mounting mine with the under dash bracket on the panel alongside the drivers leg that the speaker is mounted to. Not the most elegant, but is functional. One day I'll get around to building an enclosure for it.

hahaha damn! without running out taking the cover off and looking, did you put it behind the speaker? where your feet would be? above it or infront of?

thanks for the feedback, would be nice to have some type of mount that worked on the open underneath dashes like we have.

wouldn't happen to have a pic would ya?

thanks Aussie_Horizon_190

I mounted mine to the right of the steering wheel at the bottom of the dash. That was the only out of the way place I could figure out for it.

Is the location of your radio remote custom?

No that is where it came. It is pretty convenient there but I would also like to have one at the back of the boat.

Maybe next winter

Pix as requested. Not the most elegant installation, but ther best I could come up with at short notice..! Like you, all I wanted to do was get out on the water at the time. :D I plan to tidy it up over winter...!

Ever considered mounting it inside the glove box? Its not something you will use very often, so it could be hidden until needed.

thanks for the replies and pictures, much appreciated!

Aussie_Horizon_190 not sure i have that separate little panel down there on my 2000 but that looks like a perfect spot if so. i need to get out there today and check that part out.

jmeirhofer thank you as well. i would love for it to be exactly where you have it but my stereo head unit is there and I'd have to move the radio to the other side but still nothing to mount to that i can tell. I'm going to figure it out today.

aguyindallas that's a great thought as well but i have allot of stuff in the glove box like paper work nuts and bolts for various needs. i will look into that but think I'd have to cut the back out for it to fit.

thanks again everyone.

I just may look at that glove box idea this weekend. I think I measured it and it would not fit but now I can not remember. If it does fit that is where it will be relocated to this winter. Thanks for the idea.

It looks like the more modern styled instrument panels make it harder to mount things...the old style panel in my 88 is straight all the way across the bottom...you could mount 2 radio there if you wanted to....I have my newer one mounted there and a leave a spare one in the cooler above the glove compartment just in case I ever need it! Here a VHF is pretty much a necessity if you ever get into trouble and need to call the Coast Guard....or SeaTow...cell phones can work but I wouln't want to depend on one in an emergency.
