 Post subject: Finally Hit the water

I havent posted in a while (personal life is in a blender) but I finally had a glimmer of hope for my summer on the water.

After a brand new distributor now with electronic advance/pointless ignition etc, fresh plugs again, new alternator and battery I made it out to the lake.

Though I would share some pics! It was an amazing day until about 4pm.

It ran great for a short while, leading to the foat being stuck open by early afternoon, and the boat would flood itself out to the point where I ended up dead in the water for a few minutes, enjoying the currents of the river. I did get it started back up and back to the dock. After that it was finished, the carb was dumping a 1/4" of gas on to the throttle plate after you shut the boat off!

So needless to say here it sits. Awaiting the carb to return from the marine service guy. Awesome.

Since we could not enjoy a ride, we enjoyed some beers sitting at the dock. The admiral and I on the left and our closest friends on the right...

Here she afloats, luckily the mechanic is local and does house calls, so he will come out and run it to tune it in properly.

It's A shame you're having problems BUT sounds like you're handling them well mentally & physically!! Keep up the positive outlook & Yea that water looks wicked clear!!

The St.Clair river appears like the bahamas just off the channel banks between 9 am and 4 pm. It is really that clear when your away from the shore. To bad the water is uber cold!

Is the carb a Rochester QuadraJet? That's what I have on my 88 4.3...I had it rebuilt once about 5 years ago and it's been great since. Do you have a water seperating fuel filter (looks like an oil filter), mounted on the lower left side of the engine as you face it? If not I'd add one...I use the 10 micron Sierra filters and after my initial fuel system problems about 6 years ago, it's been fine....did they recently introduce E-10 gas in your region? Because if they did, it can clean out all the varnish and junk in the old gas tank and clog filters...or if it gets past filters...make floats stick open....and the Q-Jet also has a little filter in the fuel inlet of the carb...that may need replacing.

the carb is a Rochester...I want to say its a two barrel?? But it does have the stone filter thing on the carb.

I have a brand new fuel water separator, and i cleaned the the filter on the carb a few weeks ago. The float is defiantly stuck open, you can see fuel sitting on the throttle plate even after you shut off the engine it keeps flowing. Not good.

I will have a freshly rebuilt carb come mid week. I think I have replaced everything major on the motor. We did a compression test with 165-170 across the board, which is re-assuring.


Now if i can just enjoy the thing! My $2500 boat is starting to cost me!

Well once the carb is set up right you should be in good shape.
$2500 boats have a way of turing into $5000 ones....my $4000 one turned into a $8000 one a few years back when we re-did the wood structure (stringer repair and deck replacement, plus replaced all the interior except the coaming side panels). But the boat is solid as a rock now and runs great. Reliable and smooth running. Looks just like yours just a bit bigger (200 Horizon) with the sunsport seating (big sun pad over the engine). I like the older hulls better for a couple of reasons...one the modern 200 is only 19'8", my old one is 20'9" so it's over a foot longer, the hull is deeper, the seats are higher and the engine compartment is much more open for maintenace.

LouC - Question about length. My 2005 H200 says that it is 20'8". Is this not correct or is there something I am missing?

Rob we seem to be following similar paths. I have had my boat out 3 times. Before the last trip had all the fluids changed as well as the impeller. Also had the timing done becuase it was off. Boat sounds healthy, but still is not revving up as much as it should. Tach was off a 1000 rpm's. They adjusted it to only being off 300. Not sure where it is now. Need to have my own tach to check it on the water. My next projects before going out again are to re-gel coat the keel where it rubbed off and try a new prop to see how it does. Like you I am getting there and soon we will enjoy our boats trouble free. :D

Yours is looking great and that water is something else. Good job making the best out of the day and spending time with your friends on the boat. Look forward to your next post saying how great it is running.

The 2005 is listed at 20'10"...but the 2006's and up....19'8"
..the 2002, 2003 and 2004...19'6"

Hey there!!

I am up near Flint and was looking at buying a Marina on Lake St Clair. I have a 195 Horizon Cuddy that I am re-doing the interior. I bought it for 1650.00 (and it runs and goes forward and backward).

These older "cheaper" boats have a tendency to become a bit of a money pit. But at least I am on the water!

GO WINGS.....can't believe we are at game 7.....but at least now we can win at JLA.

You know...the Pens aren't a bad team......for the 2nd best hockey team in the NHL. (get's off soapbox).

Very confusing. I wonder if anyone (outside four winns) has actually measured them. Did the hulls change much in those years?
