Is anyone aware of any known issues with this motor? Mercury V6 205hp 4bbl.
Or any other insights to this boat?

Thanks! Mike

The boats after '87 were OMC sterndrives--Thats what you want to avoid. If its a Mercruiser with a V6, you are good to go!! As with any engine, give it a good going over, its still and old engine. I now the response is old but I figure I;ll give it a shot.

Not that I can offer much advise, but Welcome aboard!

I had an 86 H190 with the 4cyl merc and merc alpha one (I think) outdrive. It was a great boat and engine. If it's the OMC, then shy away, but if a merc, then go for it. Just make sure to have a mechanic check things over, ie make sure the engine block is not cracked, no water in the oil, etc....also look for soft spots in the floor, hull damage, etc. Feel free to post some pics here prior to buying. I'm sure you'll get plenty of good advise.

With a boat that age....I'd look first at the structure...you have a wood and fiberglass boat...the wood used in the stringers...deck(floor) and transom can and will rot and repairs to that are difficult and expensive...so I'd look at that carefully...especially if the boat has carpet over wood floors and was not stored inside...it it was properly stored it could be OK but many boats that age will have varying degrees of rotted wood...be very careful...replacing an engine or drive is a lot easier that fixing rotted stringers...decks and transoms....I had to do a stringer repair and deck replacement on my 88 and it came out great but took a lot of time and the parts of the job I did not do my self cost some cash..but well worth it....

and about OMC vs Merc...well Merc is always easier to get service on but I had great luck with my OMC Cobra....
