Thanks to everyone for the info. I will replace the thermostat try to see if there is any pieces of the old impeller in there anywhere. Hopefully this will fix the problem. I will post results when this is done.

If you don't see any impeller vane pieces you need to keep looking. They gotta be somewhere, right? Maybe try to flush the system back from the heat exchanger to the impeller housing - in an attempt to force them out? I don't know, but I do know that the reason people replace impellers every couple years is to avoid this exact problem - certainly not your fault, I'm just saying.
