My 2007 h180 sits on a boat lift with a canopy. Well, the canopy started leaking and the boat is not level on the lift. So, water accumulates in the bilge back in the engine that is not taken care by the pump. The issue is that how much water inch wise can accumulate before it gets into the gimbal bearing? Anyone know?

I would guess that, unless it is sitting at some wild angle off horizontal on your lift, that the bilge pump would take care of the water before it got to the critical level. In saying this, I don't know how much water it would take if the bilge pump is not working.

I agree the bilge will pick it up before you get near that point...unless it's basically hanging from the bow hook. Age old question though - how strong is your battery cuz if it runs down, you get debris around the pump or the float fails you will have issues. I know on my bro's boat (up in a sling) we would hit the innertube and pull the plug as a fail safe....it's a pain i know but gravity is more reliable than elecrtical wiring and batteries:)

Thanks. I am feeling better. I am getting a new canopy. In the meantime, I pull the drain plug when I do not use it for a long period of time.

NEVER leave the plug out while your boat is on a lift or hoist. Get a cover and a working bilge pump. In the past 3 years I have pulled 2 boats from the bottom of Possum Kingdom because they didnt have a plug in them while on a lift. One someone let the lift down for giggles, we guess as they walked by. The other a private dock a cable snap on a weekend home and sent it into the drink.

I guess it's a matter of what you feel more comfortable with....have seen several fill with water while on sling, added weight snapped lift cables and boat was already swamped before it hit the lake.....good points though - a lock on the lift control would be nice. Personally, when leaving boat in sling for long period i yank the plug unless it's a self bailing (gravity bail) system.

Had a fairly new boat at the marina this past weekend totally swamped due to apparent bilge pump failure or dead battery. Total waste - there is a risk either way, just do what you feel most comfortable with i recon. Having buds at the marina and look out for eachother is a big plus for sure
